If you want to go outside full Auto, your best bet is to use Program and adjust exposure using the top dial for many scenes. It's joined by Info, Menu, Play, and Record buttons and a flat dial to set the camera's mode. The main rear control is a four-way directional pad, with the OK button at its center. It's also not the end of the world-you're not going to cut yourself on it, but you may notice some small indentations in your thumb after turning it a few times.

The wheel is useful-the TG-6 doesn't include full manual exposure control, so many photographers will opt to use it to dial in exposure adjustments.

Olympus has added plastic ridges, so you can get a grip and turn it, but they are a little pointy. The control wheel isn't comfortable-it's very slim, and it has to be waterproof, so sealing makes turning it require some effort. The On/Off button is on top, along with the shutter release, zoom control, and a control wheel. Its handgrip is decently deep, and the camera ships with a cloth wrist strap that you can use on land and under water. The TG-6 is a pretty standard point-and-shoot from a handling perspective. The GoPro Hero8 Black has a much wider lens and more robust video and slow-motion features, but it's not good for macro shots-its lens just doesn't focus close. Macro focus-and zoom for that matter-make the TG-6 a very different animal than action cameras. The TG-6 has an especially good macro feature, and I'd consider one of the light modifiers a necessary accessory. Olympus sells a couple of fish-eye lenses, if you want to get a wider angle of view, as well as a pair of flash accessories that redirect light to surround the lens, filling in shadows in close-up shots. There's an accessory ring around the lens. It opens up to f/2 at the widest angle, a plus for snapping shots in dim light, but does drop in brightness to f/4.9 when zoomed all the way in. The TG-6 uses the same 25-100mm (full-frame equivalent) zoom as previous entries in the series.

But waterproof cameras have to keep lenses entirely inside the body. Many pocket cameras offer huge zoom ranges.
